151 Elite Trainer Box – Scarlet & Violet 151 Elite Trainer Box (SV3.5)

Pokémon 151 Card List, Chase Cards and Is There a 151 Booster Box?

Pokémon 151 brought all 151 original Kanto Pokémon back to the trading card game. Released as a Scarlet & Violet special set, it mixes nostalgia with modern rarities, and its Charizard ex special illustration rare is one of the best-known cards of the era. This guide covers the card list, the chase cards, the booster box question, the Japanese version and every product you can open.

Quick facts: released September 22, 2023 · 207 cards (165 + 42 secret) · all 151 Kanto Pokémon · no English booster box · Japanese version: Pokémon Card 151 (SV2a).

Release date and set size

The set released on September 22, 2023, with early access on Pokémon TCG Live from September 21. It has 207 cards: 165 in the main set and 42 secret cards. According to the official Pokémon page for the set, it includes every original Kanto Pokémon, 12 new Pokémon ex and more than 10 Trainer cards.

The rarity mix at the top end looks like this:

  • 16 illustration rares
  • 7 special illustration rares
  • 16 ultra rare full arts
  • 3 gold hyper rares

One nice detail: the cards appear in National Pokédex order, from Bulbasaur to Mew, instead of being grouped by type. That makes the set very easy to sort in a binder.

Pokémon 151 card list: the secret rares

The main set runs from 001 to 165. Everything above that is a secret card, and that is where most of the value sits.

Special illustration rares

There are seven special illustration rares: Venusaur ex (198), Charizard ex (199), Blastoise ex (200), Alakazam ex (201), Zapdos ex (202), Erika’s Invitation (203) and Giovanni’s Charisma (204). The three Kanto starters as a trio make a classic binder page.

Gold cards

The last three cards are gold: Mew ex (205), Switch (206) and Psychic Energy (207). Mew ex is the one most collectors chase, as it is the final Pokémon in the Pokédex and the final card in the set.

Illustration rares of the starters

The illustration rares are just as popular as the ex cards. The Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle lines all get illustration rares, and Pikachu has one too. Several of them rank in the set’s top ten by value.

Pokémon 151 chase cards

Here is the order of the most valuable cards from a March 2026 ranking:

  • Charizard ex 199/165 special illustration rare
  • Blastoise ex 200/165 special illustration rare
  • Venusaur ex 198/165 special illustration rare
  • Zapdos ex 202/165 special illustration rare
  • Squirtle 170/165 illustration rare
  • Charmander 168/165 illustration rare
  • Bulbasaur 166/165 illustration rare
  • Alakazam ex 201/165 special illustration rare
  • Pikachu 173/165 illustration rare
  • Charmeleon 169/165 and Wartortle 171/165 illustration rares

Charizard ex: the top card

The Charizard ex special illustration rare, 199/165, is the number one chase card. Charizard has been the most wanted Pokémon card since the original Base Set, and this card brings that history into the modern era. If you only want one card from the set, this is the one.

Is there a Pokémon 151 booster box?

Not in English. The English set had no traditional 36-pack booster box. Instead, a 6-pack Booster Bundle took its place, and it was the first booster bundle made for a special set. Special-set packs are sold only inside specific products, and the Booster Bundle was the only pack-only item in the first wave of products.

So if you see a sealed English Pokémon 151 booster box for sale, be careful: there is no official English product of that kind. The closest options are a stack of Booster Bundles, the Elite Trainer Box or the Ultra-Premium Collection.

The Japanese 151 booster box

The Japanese 151 booster box does exist. The Japanese set, Pokémon Card 151 (SV2a), came out in Japan on June 16, 2023. A Japanese box holds 20 packs of 7 cards, and each pack has 2 guaranteed holo cards. Japanese packs also have Poké Ball and Master Ball mirror patterns that the English set does not have. Bulbapedia’s Japanese set page lists every card.

Japanese packs can very rarely contain what collectors call a “demigod pack”, with two secret cards from the Bulbasaur, Charmander or Squirtle lines. Browse our Japanese Pokémon booster boxes for current Japanese sets.

English vs Japanese 151

  • Card count: 207 in English, 210 in Japanese (165 + 45 secret). Three Japanese secret cards were left out of the English set.
  • Packs: English packs have 10 cards, Japanese packs have 7.
  • Foils: only the Japanese set has Poké Ball and Master Ball mirror patterns.
  • Boxes: only the Japanese set has a booster box.

Most of today’s collectors started with the original 151 Pokémon, either from the first cards in 1999 or from the first games. Pokémon 151 gives them modern artwork of those same Pokémon, with special illustration rares of the Kanto starters and Mew. It also works for newer fans, because the set is simple to follow: one card for every original Pokémon, in Pokédex order.

The limited product range adds to that. With no English booster box, sealed Pokémon 151 products have become some of the most collected boxes of the Scarlet & Violet era.
