Paldean Fates Elite Trainer Box – Paldean Fates Elite Trainer Box (SV4.5)

Paldean Fates Card List, Shiny Chase Cards and Charizard ex

Paldean Fates is the shiny set of the Scarlet & Violet era. It brought Shiny Pokémon back to the trading card game with more than 130 shiny cards, following the tradition of Hidden Fates and Shining Fates. This guide covers the card list, the shiny rares, Shiny Charizard ex and the other chase cards, the booster box question and every product.

Quick facts: released January 26, 2024 · 245 cards (91 main set + 154 secret) · 132 shiny cards · 8 special illustration rares · no booster box · Japanese version: Shiny Treasure ex.

Paldean Fates release date and set size

The set released on January 26, 2024, with Pokémon TCG Live getting it on January 25. It was the second special expansion of the Scarlet & Violet Series, after 151. The official product announcement promised more than 130 Shiny Pokémon, 8 special illustration rares and 6 hyper rare Pokémon ex.

The main set is small, with just 91 cards (001/091 to 091/091). Almost everything else is numbered past the main set, all the way to 245/091. That means most of the set is secret rares, which is very unusual and a big part of the fun. Bulbapedia’s set page has the full checklist.

Paldean Fates card list: how the set is built

Here is how the numbers break down after the main set:

  • 092–211: 120 Shiny Rares
  • 212–223: 12 Shiny Ultra Rares
  • 224–226: 3 illustration rares (Wugtrio, Palafin and Pawmi)
  • 227–231: 5 Supporter ultra rares
  • 232–239: 8 special illustration rares
  • 240–245: 6 gold hyper rares

The shiny rares

The 120 Shiny Rares are shiny versions of regular Pokémon, from early favourites to Paldea’s newest. The 12 Shiny Ultra Rares are full-art shiny Pokémon ex: Forretress ex, Toedscruel ex, Espathra ex, Alakazam ex, Mew ex, Gardevoir ex, Glimmora ex, Paldean Clodsire ex, Noivern ex, Pidgeot ex, Wigglytuff ex and Squawkabilly ex.

In older sets, this kind of shiny subset was called a “Shiny Vault”. In this set, the shiny cards are simply numbered after the main set rather than having their own subset.

Special illustration rares

There are eight special illustration rares: Mew ex (232), Gardevoir ex (233), Charizard ex (234), Arven (235), Clive (236), Iono (237), Nemona (238) and Penny (239). The three Pokémon ex all show their shiny forms.

Gold hyper rares

The six gold cards are all Paldea legends: Wo-Chien ex (240), Chi-Yu ex (241), Chien-Pao ex (242), Miraidon ex (243), Ting-Lu ex (244) and Koraidon ex (245).

Paldean Fates chase cards

Here is the order of the most valuable cards from a March 2026 ranking:

  • Shiny Mew ex 232/091 special illustration rare
  • Shiny Charizard ex 234/091 special illustration rare
  • Shiny Gardevoir ex 233/091 special illustration rare
  • Shiny Pikachu 131/091 Shiny Rare
  • Shiny Snorlax 202/091 Shiny Rare
  • Shiny Mew ex 216/091 Shiny Ultra Rare
  • Shiny Ditto 201/091 Shiny Rare
  • Iono 237/091 special illustration rare
  • Shiny Charmander 109/091 Shiny Rare
  • Shiny Mimikyu 160/091 Shiny Rare

The Paldean Fates chase cards are a good mix: three shiny ex special illustration rares at the top, and then plenty of Shiny Rares like Pikachu, Snorlax and Ditto that still hold real value. That makes every pack exciting, even without a big hit.

Shiny Charizard ex in Paldean Fates

Charizard Paldean Fates collectors have two set cards to look for: the regular Charizard ex double rare (054/091) and the Shiny Charizard ex special illustration rare (234/091). The special illustration rare shows Charizard in its black shiny colouring and was ranked second in value in March 2026, just behind Shiny Mew ex.

There is also a Tera Charizard ex shiny promo (SVP 074) in one of the Paldean Fates Tins, and a Shiny Charmander (109/091) in the Shiny Rares. Together they make a great Charizard page for a binder.

Is there a Paldean Fates booster box?

No. Like other special sets, Paldean Fates packs were not sold in a booster box, and at launch they were not even sold as single packs. Every pack came inside a product: Elite Trainer Boxes, Tins, Mini Tins, collections and the Booster Bundle.

If you want to open a full box, look at the Japanese version. Shiny Treasure ex was released in Japan on December 1, 2023 as a high-class pack set, and the Japanese Shiny Treasure ex booster box is the closest thing to a Paldean Fates booster box.

Shiny Pokémon are rare in the video games, so finding one has always felt special. Shiny sets bring that feeling to the card game. Hidden Fates in 2019 and Shining Fates in 2021 were both huge hits, and Paldean Fates did the same for the Scarlet & Violet era, with shiny versions of new Paldea Pokémon alongside classics like Pikachu, Charmander and Snorlax.

The shiny cards also make the set easy to collect in small amounts. Even if you never pull a special illustration rare, a binder of Shiny Rares looks great, and many of them are worth keeping. That is a big reason Paldean Fates is still so popular today.
