Delta Reign Booster Box – Mega Evolution: Delta Reign Booster Box (ME06)

How Many Packs in a Booster Box? Booster Box vs ETB vs Booster Bundle

How many packs in a booster box? For English Pokémon cards the answer is 36, but that is only the start. Elite Trainer Boxes, booster bundles, tins and Japanese boxes all hold different numbers of packs, and the cards per pack change too. This guide explains every common sealed product so you know exactly what you are buying.

Quick answer: English Pokémon booster box = 36 packs of 10 cards · Elite Trainer Box = 9 packs · Pokémon Center ETB = 11 packs · booster bundle = 6 packs · Japanese standard box = 30 packs of 5 cards.

How many packs in a booster box?

An English Pokémon booster box, which Pokémon calls a booster display, holds 36 booster packs. Each pack has 10 cards plus 1 Basic Energy, so a full box gives you 360 cards to open. That makes it the biggest standard product for any main set.

Some countries in Europe have also had 18-pack half displays, but the 36-pack box is the standard you will see in most stores. Browse our English Pokémon booster boxes to see the current sets.

What is a Pokémon booster box?

So, what is a Pokémon booster box exactly? It is a sealed display box of booster packs from one set, made for stores to sell packs one at a time. Collectors buy the whole box because it is the cheapest way per pack to open a set, and it gives the best chance of pulling the rare cards. A booster box has packs only: no promo cards, sleeves or other accessories.

Regular vs Enhanced booster boxes

Some sets also have an Enhanced Booster Display. It has the same 36 packs plus a bonus promo card. For the Mega Evolution series, the bonus was a stamped, illustration-rare-style Bulbasaur promo. Journey Together brought the idea back with a stamped N’s Reshiram box topper, which you can read about in our Journey Together card list.

Do all sets have a booster box?

No. Special sets often skip the booster box. Sets like Pokémon 151, Paldean Fates, Prismatic Evolutions and Ascended Heroes did not get an English booster box. Their packs only come inside other products, and the largest pack-only option is usually the booster bundle.

So the answer to how many packs in a Pokémon booster box only applies to main sets. For special sets, check the product list before you go looking for a box.

What comes in an Elite Trainer Box?

What comes in an Elite Trainer Box depends a little on the era, but every ETB has 9 booster packs and a promo card. A current Mega Evolution ETB includes:

  • 9 booster packs
  • 1 full-art foil promo card
  • 65 card sleeves
  • 40 Energy cards
  • 6 damage-counter dice and a coin-flip die
  • a plastic coin
  • a player’s guide
  • a Pokémon TCG Live code card
  • a collector’s box with 6 dividers

Scarlet & Violet ETBs were similar, but they came with 45 Energy cards, 2 condition markers and 4 dividers. The official 151 Pokémon Center ETB listing shows that older mix.

Pokémon Center ETB

The Pokémon Center Elite Trainer Box has 11 packs, 2 more than the regular one, plus a second copy of the promo with a Pokémon Center logo. The accessories are the same. These are sold through Pokémon Center and can be hard to get, as some have been sold through invite-only links.

Booster bundle vs ETB

A booster bundle has 6 packs and nothing else. Here is how the booster bundle vs ETB comparison works out:

  • Packs: 6 in a bundle, 9 in an ETB.
  • Promo: the ETB has one, the bundle does not.
  • Accessories: the ETB has sleeves, Energy, dice and a storage box. The bundle has none.
  • Best for: the bundle is for opening packs, the ETB is for players and gifts.

If you already have sleeves and dice, a booster bundle is the simpler way to open packs. If you are new to the game or buying a gift, the ETB is better. Shop our booster bundles.

Tins, mini tins and Build & Battle Boxes

  • Standard tin: usually 4 booster packs, 1 foil promo and a code card.
  • Poké Ball tin: 3 packs and 2 sticker sheets.
  • Mini tin: 2 packs, a sticker sheet and an art card. The art cards in a series often combine into one bigger picture.
  • Build & Battle Box: a ready-to-play 40-card deck, 1 of 4 foil promos and 4 booster packs.

Pack counts in tins can vary by product, so always check the listing for the exact number.

Japanese booster boxes

Japanese boxes are very different. A standard Japanese booster box holds 30 packs of 5 cards, so 150 cards in total. Japanese “high class” sets use a different format: 10 packs of 10 cards per box, so 100 cards.

Japanese packs have fewer cards, but Japanese boxes almost always include at least one Super Rare or higher, which English boxes do not guarantee. Japanese pack prices also went up from May 2026, with standard boxes rising from 5,400 to 6,000 yen. Browse our Japanese Pokémon booster boxes to compare.

How to choose the right product

Start with what you want from the set. If you want to chase the rarest cards, the number that matters is how many packs in a booster box, and 36 packs is hard to beat. If you want a set of accessories for playing, or a gift that looks great, an Elite Trainer Box is a better fit. If you just want to open a few packs, a booster bundle or a tin is enough.

Budget matters too. The booster bundle vs ETB choice often comes down to whether you need the sleeves, dice and storage box. A tin or mini tin is a good small gift, and a Build & Battle Box is the best start for a new player because it comes with a ready deck.

Tips for buying sealed products

  • Check the set first: special sets often have no booster box.
  • Read the listing to see what comes in an Elite Trainer Box from that set, as promos and accessories change.
  • Look for the words “Enhanced” or “Pokémon Center” if you want the box topper or the extra packs.
  • Keep sealed products away from sunlight and damp if you plan to store them.
  • Buy from a trusted store, so you know the packs have not been opened and resealed.
