Edge of Eternities (MTG): Set Guide, Commander Decks and Best Cards

Instead of a familiar plane, it is an original sci-fi setting built around the Sothera system, with Spacecraft, Planets and a bonus sheet of iconic lands called Stellar Sights. This guide covers the release dates, the card list, the mechanics, the chase cards, the Edge of Eternities Commander decks and the boxes.

Quick facts: tabletop release August 1, 2025 · MTG Arena July 29 · prerelease July 25–31 · 276 cards in the main set · 45-card Stellar Sights bonus sheet · two Commander decks.

Release dates

The set released worldwide on tabletop on August 1, 2025. It arrived on MTG Arena on July 29, prerelease events ran from July 25 to 31, and the full card gallery went up on July 18. The Pro Tour was held at MagicCon: Atlanta from September 26 to 28, 2025.

A brand new setting

Edge of Eternities is set in the Sothera system, a new corner of the Multiverse full of starships, alien worlds and cosmic threats. Instead of revisiting a known plane, the designers built a fresh world from scratch, with Planets as land cards and Spacecraft as artifacts that come to life. It is one of the most different-looking sets Magic has ever made.

Edge of Eternities MTG card list

The main set has 276 cards: 81 commons, 100 uncommons, 60 rares, 20 mythics and 15 basic lands. With Booster Fun versions and promos, the numbering runs to 399.

New mechanics

The official mechanics article introduced:

  • Spacecraft: an artifact subtype that becomes a creature once it has enough charge counters.
  • Station: tap another creature to add charge counters equal to its power.
  • Planet: a new nonbasic land type.
  • Warp: a cheap alternative cost from your hand. The card is exiled at the end step and can be cast again later.
  • Void: a bonus if a nonland permanent left play or a spell was warped this turn.
  • Lander tokens: sacrifice them to find a basic land.

Landfall also returns as part of a lands-matter theme. The set came with a Commander rules change too: legendary Vehicles and Spacecraft with printed power and toughness can now be your commander.

Stellar Sights

Stellar Sights is a bonus sheet of 45 lands (30 rares and 15 mythics). One appears in 1 of every 8 Play Boosters and in every Collector Booster, and each one also has a “poster” version found in about a third of Collector Boosters.

Best cards

Sothera, the Supervoid

The headliner is Sothera, the Supervoid, a mythic rare. Its textless singularity foil version appears in fewer than 1% of Collector Boosters and is English only. Sothera is also part of the 10-card Japan Showcase.

Stellar Sights lands

Stellar Sights reprints led the values at launch, including Ancient Tomb, Gemstone Caverns, Mana Confluence, Strip Mine, Inkmoth Nexus and Grove of the Burnwillows. These are lands that Eternal players always need.

Main-set standouts

Main-set cards named among the most valuable include Tezzeret, Cruel Captain; Exalted Sunborn; Uthros, Titanic Godcore; Evendo, Waking Haven; Ouroboroid; Icetill Explorer; Quantum Riddler; and The Endstone. Shock lands such as Sacred Foundry, Watery Grave, Breeding Pool and Godless Shrine also appear, including borderless “viewport” versions.

Booster Fun treatments

  • Extended art cards.
  • Borderless triumphant and surreal space cards.
  • Galaxy foil Stellar Sights lands and celestial basics, found only in Collector Boosters.
  • 54 art cards.

The collecting article does not describe any serialized cards in this set.

Edge of Eternities Commander decks

There are two Edge of Eternities Commander decks. Each has 100 cards (2 foil borderless commanders and 98 non-foil cards, 10 of them new to Magic), a Collector Booster Sample Pack and a deck box.

  • Counter Intelligence (blue, red and white): Inspirit, Flagship Vessel and Kilo, Apogee Mind, built around +1/+1 counters and charge counters.
  • World Shaper (black, red and green): Hearthhull, the Worldseed and Szarel, Genesis Shepherd, built around lands, landfall and sacrifice.

Drafting Edge of Eternities

Play Boosters are built for drafting, and the set rewards planning. Station asks you to power up Spacecraft with your creatures, Warp lets you play cards early for a lower cost and recast them later, and Void rewards you for moving cards in and out of play. With a Stellar Sights land in 1 of 8 packs, every Edge of Eternities draft also has a chance at a valuable pull.

Products and boxes

Play Booster box

A Play Booster box holds 30 packs. Each has 14 cards: 6 or 7 commons, 3 uncommons, a wildcard, a rare or mythic, a traditional foil, a land (which can be a celestial basic) and a token. Special Guests appear in about 1.8% of packs, and a Stellar Sights land in 1 of 8. Our Edge of Eternities Play Booster box is the best way to draft or open lots of packs.

Stores also offered a buy-a-box promo, a traditional foil extended-art Singularity Rupture, for preordering a Play or Collector box.

Collector Booster box

A Collector Booster box holds 12 packs of 15 cards. Each has foils, a Commander card, Booster Fun cards and a Stellar Sights land. It is the only place to find the singularity foil Sothera.

Bundle and Prerelease Pack

  • Bundle: 9 Play Boosters, a foil Emissary Escort promo, 30 basic lands including 10 celestial basics, 2 reference cards, a spindown and a storage box.
  • Prerelease Pack: 6 Play Boosters, a foil year-stamped rare or mythic, a deck box and a spindown.

Why the set stands out

MTG Edge of Eternities was a bold move: an original science fiction world in a game known for fantasy. Spacecraft and Planets gave the set a fresh look, and the Stellar Sights lands made every pack exciting for players who need Eternal staples. It is also an in-universe premier set, so its cards are Standard-legal.
