The Pizza Bundle includes 9 Play Boosters, a Collector Booster and pizza basic lands.

Why the Turtles fit Magic

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles started as a comic by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird in 1984 and grew into cartoons, films and toys loved by several generations. Four brothers with very different personalities, a wise teacher in Splinter and memorable villains like Shredder and Krang make a natural fit for a card game built around legendary creatures and teamwork.

The set leans into that teamwork. The Legendary Turtle slot means you open a Turtle in every Play Booster, and the Commander deck lets you lead with Leonardo while bringing his brothers and Splinter along.

TMNT MTG card list

Retailer set lists put the base set at about 195 cards, with 15 mythics and 53 rares. Counting every variant, the full TMNT MTG card list runs to around 320 entries.

New mechanics

  • Sneak: an alternative cost. Return an unblocked attacker to your hand to cast the card after blockers are declared, and the creature enters tapped and attacking.
  • Mutagen: artifact tokens you can sacrifice to put a +1/+1 counter on a creature.
  • Disappear: a new ability word.
  • Partner—Character select: a new partner option for Commander.

Alliance and Class cards also return, and the set adds a new creature type, Utrom, for Krang’s species.

Playing with Sneak

Sneak is the set’s signature mechanic, and it feels like a ninja ambush. Once your attacker is unblocked, you can return it to your hand to cast a Sneak card instead, and that card enters tapped and attacking. It rewards careful timing and makes combat much harder for your opponent to predict, which suits the Turtles perfectly.

Booster Fun treatments

  • 20 Source Material cards.
  • 8 Silhouette mythics.
  • Pixel cards (8 rares and 7 mythics in surge foil, Collector Booster only).
  • A Sewer frame for uncommons, rares and mythics.
  • 10 Japan Showcase cards.
  • Scene cards, including Turtle Tots Pizza Party, Shredder Rooftop Battle and Mutant Melee.
  • Pizza and rooftop full-art basic lands.

The best TMNT MTG cards

Kevin Eastman headliners

The headline TMNT MTG cards are four new borderless Turtle cards with black-and-white art by Kevin Eastman, the co-creator of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and a gold-foil signature stamp. They are only found in English Collector Boosters. The top versions are the mythics Donatello, Mutant Mechanic and Michelangelo, Improviser.

Japan Showcase fracture foils

The fracture foil Japan Showcase mythics dominate value lists. Top cards include Super Shredder; Michelangelo, Weirdness to 11; Krang, Utrom Warlord; Dark Leo & Shredder; Raphael, the Nightwatcher; Leonardo, Cutting Edge; Donatello, Gadget Master; and April O’Neil, Hacktivist.

Other chase cards

Cards named among the biggest chases at launch include Doubling Season, Trouble in Pairs, Undercity Sewers, Donnie’s Bo and North Wind Avatar. The official collecting article does not mention any serialized cards in this set.

Collecting TMNT MTG cards

There are lots of ways to collect the set. Some fans chase one version of each Turtle, others go after the Kevin Eastman headliners or the Japan Showcase cards, and some focus on the pizza and rooftop basic lands. The Source Material cards, which show scenes from the comics and cartoons, are another fun target. Whatever you choose, sleeve your TMNT MTG cards straight away, especially the foils.

The Turtle Power! Commander deck

MTG TMNT has one Commander deck, Turtle Power!, a five-color deck. Its face commander is Leonardo, the Balance, and its five featured commanders are Donatello, the Brains; Raphael, the Muscle; Michelangelo, the Heart; Splinter, the Mentor; and Heroes in a Half Shell. All six are borderless foils, with 94 non-foil cards, 10 tokens and a deck box. Reprints include Sol Ring, Chromatic Lantern and Assassin’s Trophy.
